At 4 years old I made a painting of a snake. It got a lot of attention. I’ve been painting ever since. Making art helps me cope with the big issues of our day. I’m attracted to humans in moments of detachment, whimsy in domestic life, and nature in both glory and despair.

I work in watercolor, soft pastels, water-soluble crayons, and graphite, often in combination. Substrates used include topographic maps, pastel and watercolor papers.

Franz Marc because he shows the inner perceptions of animals.Franz Marc because he shows the inner perceptions of animals.

Alex Colville because of his mysterious stories, simple composition, and drawing skills.

Louise Bourgeois for recognizing the beauty of human disfunction.

Egon Schiele for capturing human fragility in the moment.

Pauline Oliveros the composer for giving us a space to breathe.

And hundreds more, including my neighbours in Meaford.

To entertain, educate, and elevate the spirit. Art makes the world a better place.

That’s easy. Finding and declaring your own brilliance makes a life fully lived.

I would turn people into environmentalists. Then we can collectively restore nature and curtail climate change without being greenwashed.
