I’m a retired educator who took up oil/acrylic/watercolour painting at the start of retirement. Primarily I use acrylic mediums as they are forgiving. I have been very fortunate to have been welcomed into both the Marsh St Painters, the Meaford Artist Group , the Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting (current Board member), and the BMFA (Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts. I have been primarily interested in Plein Air painting as I enjoy nature, the camaraderie, and the challenges. I particularly love painting landscapes that include water and trees so Plein air painting fits in nicely. My style is colourful impressionism. I also enjoy the challenge of painting barns and other buildings. Perspective can be tricky. When painting Florals, I am mostly in my studio. The colours you can experiment with are exciting.

I am drawn to the work of the group of seven. To be able to paint in • Locations is inspiring. The impressionists inspire me to paint looser and colourful. I love colour.

Painting is a visual art by category, but it is more. When painting, it is also very auditory when your outside. The sounds and smell of nature combined with the process are forms of meditative relaxation. The sense of taste comes in with a glass of wine or coffee being sipped while painting.

I’m inspired by those plein air painters who paint in inclement weather. haven’t quite gotten to that point yet.

It changes with time. At this age…good health is the key.
