Article about The Dramatic Arts Market
in The Meaford Independent Newspaper
The upcoming Dramatic Arts Market on Saturday, June 13 is more than just an art market. Alongside local artists and creative vendors hosted by GUM Gallery, the Meaford Theatre Company will bring an interactive theatrical experience for visitors of all ages.
Located at the Coworking Corner at 278 Cook Street, this event will combine visual art, with hands-on dramatic activities in one indoor venue.
For the Meaford Theatre Company, the event is both a fundraiser and an opportunity to introduce more people to community theatre. Their primary goal is to sell surplus wardrobe and costume pieces, while also creating engaging opportunities for families, children, and adults to experience the fun of performance.
Visitors can browse a wide variety of sale items, including vintage, ethnic, and specialty costumes perfect for dance recitals, pageants, Halloween, school productions, and creative dress-up. Available items will include dresses, vests, hats, headdresses, jackets, and costume jewelry.
The Dramatic Arts Market will also showcase the remarkable talent of local artists, artisans, and makers from Meaford and surrounding communities. Throughout the venue, visitors will find original artwork, photography, crafts, and other one-of-a-kind pieces. The event is designed to celebrate the diversity and creativity of the local arts scene while giving artists an opportunity to connect directly with the public.
Guests will have the chance to meet creators, learn about their artistic processes, and support independent local talent in a welcoming and community-focused environment.
Planned theatre activities include:
• Costume and wardrobe sales
• Script readings from noon to 1 p.m.
• Story-time for children from 1 to 1:30 p.m.
• Ongoing photo opportunities with costumes and props
• Character drawing stations where children and adults can sketch imaginative stage characters for display during the market
By blending costume sales, dramatic arts activities, and visual art, the Meaford Theatre Company aims to spark new interest in local theatre while helping build stronger community connections.
The Dramatic Arts Market runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and promises to be a lively celebration of creativity in all its forms.
