Rupen: FULL MEASURE (with video)

Opening Saturday Sept 12th 12-2 (artist talk 12:30 – 1:30 pm), Show: September 4 to October 13, 2026

Rupen’s work is often difficult to categorize, combining wall-hung sculptures, painted constructions, and blueprint-like designs that engage viewers in a physically and conceptually challenging experience. He frequently begins with detailed drawings of forms, spaces, and angles, which are then selectively painted with gouache, determining whether they will also be fabricated into larger sculptural panels. His practice can be described as post-minimalist, emphasizing both the materiality of the object and the perceptual engagement it generates.

Works on Paper

Compostions are based on a structured set of rules. Within a defined grid, visual elements are arranged according to random outcomes such as the rolling of dice.

Wall Sculptures

The exhibition will feature several of Rupen’s wall sculptures. These works rely on on predetermined constructive ideas rather than loose, gestural brushwork. The pieces consist of carefully carved and painted medium-density fiberboard panels.
